Planning your visit
Appointments can be booked online or by calling the Frisco office. The online request form asks for new or returning patient status, the wound location, preferred days and times, and images of the front and back of the insurance card. At the evaluation, the team does a physical exam, reviews medical history and asks about lifestyle and symptoms, then recommends the number of HBOT sessions based on the wound type, its severity and how it responds to treatment. The clinic notes that HBOT should not be used in cases of untreated pneumothorax, an existing collapsed lung, certain types of lung disease, recent ear surgery or pregnancy. Before each session, patients remove hair products and petroleum-based skin products and hand their phone and other electronics to staff. Patients sit or lie on an exam table and breathe oxygen through a lightweight mask or hood. Sessions last about two hours, and staff monitor the patient and the chamber throughout. Ears may pop as pressure rises; yawning or swallowing helps. Pressure is lowered slowly at the end, and some patients feel lightheaded or tired for a short time afterward. Most patients need multiple treatments.
