About
Penn Wound Care Center is a Penn Medicine wound care practice on the 11th floor of Penn Medicine University City at 3737 Market Street. It houses the two monoplace hyperbaric chambers of Penn's Division of Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine: clear acrylic chambers that treat one patient at a time, with a nurse or paramedic trained in hyperbaric medicine beside the chamber. Alongside hyperbaric oxygen therapy for selected wounds, the team offers debridement, compression therapy, negative pressure wound therapy and skin substitutes, and works with podiatry, vascular surgery, plastic surgery and dermatology.

Planning your visit
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy begins with a consult visit at which a Penn hyperbaric physician evaluates whether the treatment is appropriate.
At the consult visit, a Penn hyperbaric physician reviews the medical history, performs a focused physical exam and may order pre-treatment testing such as a chest X-ray and blood work. Penn's hyperbaric division lists treatments of 2 to 3 hours, given daily 5 to 6 days per week; most patients receive 10 to 60 sessions, and the team re-evaluates progress every 10 treatments. Patients can eat, drink and take their medications as usual. Electronics, cosmetics such as hair spray and perfume, petroleum-based products, synthetic materials such as nylon and rayon, glass bottles, watches, pens, lighters, matches and batteries are not allowed inside the chamber, and a locker is provided for belongings. The center is on the 11th floor of 3737 Market Street; the parking garage entrance is on Filbert Street behind the building, and valet parking is entered from 38th Street.
