UofL Health – Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine is an outpatient wound care center of UofL Health – Mary & Elizabeth Hospital, in Medical Plaza 1 on the hospital campus in South Louisville. The center opened in 2023 and is staffed by physicians, nurses and technicians trained in wound care and hyperbaric oxygen therapy, which is given in individual chambers. It lists non-healing wounds, foot and leg ulcers, reopened surgical wounds, radiation injuries, bone infections and crush injuries among the conditions it treats, and its care plans are coordinated with each patient's own physician.

Planning your visit
Most patients are referred by their primary care physician, but patients can also schedule appointments themselves.
Appointments are required, and most patients can be scheduled within 48 hours. The first visit includes a diagnostic examination of the wound, its cause, classification, size and depth, along with an assessment of overall health and ability to follow the needed therapies; tests may include laboratory work, radiology, transcutaneous oxygen testing and vascular studies. The team develops an individual treatment plan and documents wound size and depth at each follow-up visit. Patients receive educational guidance for home and lifestyle adjustments. HBOT sessions take about two hours and are usually given once daily for about four to six weeks.
