Planning your visit
Call the clinic to schedule the first dive. Before the first appointment, review the policy forms and the preparation checklist on the scheduling page; once the appointment is booked, the clinic emails an invitation to create an OnPatient profile, where the medical history, medication and allergy intake is completed and the policy forms are acknowledged. The facility is across the street from the Fire Department, within walking distance of Fauquier Hospital. Arrive 15 minutes early for the first appointment. A session lasts about 90 minutes, including about 60 minutes at treatment pressure. The clinic provides 100% cotton scrubs, the only clothing allowed in the chambers, along with linens; makeup, lotions, jewelry, electronics and other listed items are not allowed. Eyeglasses may be worn, and socks are fine for walking between the dressing rooms and the chamber room but cannot be worn in the chambers. Staff give an orientation that covers preparation and ear-clearing techniques. Limit liquids for a couple of hours before each session, avoid carbonated drinks beforehand, and have a good meal before the session; avoid caffeine, nicotine and alcohol for 2 hours before and after a session. Wear slip-on shoes, and bring a water bottle for after the session. Patients who use a glucose monitor should bring it. A bound book or magazine without newsprint may be taken into the chamber, a TV is mounted above the hard chambers, and the clinic has chamber-approved Bluetooth headsets for listening to music or books from a mobile device. After each session the operator does a quick debrief with the patient. Family members and friends cannot stay in the chamber room during sessions.
