About
Advanced Brain Centers of Virginia is a multi-therapy practice on the Reston Hospital campus in Reston. Its hyperbaric service, presented as Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy of NOVA, is offered alongside neurofeedback, neuromodulation devices and IV therapy in protocols developed under neuropsychologist Dr. Philip DeFina, with internist Dr. Samuel Shor as medical director. The clinic says HBOT is prescribed by a physician and given under medical supervision; its team includes a chief hyperbaric specialist and a hyperbaric technician, both with the CHS credential, and a director of nursing. Its HBOT page lists traumatic brain injury, chronic post-stroke state, Lyme disease, wound care and radiation proctitis among the conditions it addresses.

Planning your visit
The clinic states that HBOT is prescribed by a physician and performed under medical supervision; its pages do not mention an outside referral.
The clinic's combined rehabilitation program starts with a one-hour intake with a neuropsychologist to review medical records, clinical history and treatment goals. A second visit includes neuropsychological testing (2–3 hours) and qEEG brain mapping (about one hour), followed by a visit to review results, safety history and possible side effects before an individualized plan is set. Program protocols run 10–40 visits and can combine HBOT (about 1.5 hours per visit) with neurofeedback, IV infusions and neuromodulators; individual therapies are also available on request. For HBOT, the clinic says a session usually takes 5–10 minutes to reach depth, 60–90 minutes of treatment and another 5–10 minutes to return to normal pressure, and that most HBOT protocols average about 20 sessions. Risks are discussed before patients sign a consent form for therapy. A post-treatment qEEG and neuropsychological testing follow the program.
