Treatment planning starts with an evaluation of the wound, its causes and the patient's medical history, which may also include a test to check the quality of blood flow. Hyperbaric sessions take about two hours, with the patient lying in a pressurized chamber. A care team member communicates through an intercom, and patients may watch television, listen to music, read or rest during treatment. The team also teaches patients how to care for the wound at home, and the wound care specialists coordinate consultations with other specialists and additional services such as home care or delivery of medical equipment, wound dressings or supplies. Patients with a head cold, fever, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea on the day of a session are asked to call the care team, as the session may need to be rescheduled. Patients who smoke are asked to tell their doctor before starting hyperbaric oxygen therapy. The center is in Health Center 4 on the Riddle Hospital campus, which has self-parking in the East, West and South garages, a parking pay station at the Health Center 4 Bridge, valet parking and a limited number of free surface-lot spaces; the garages accept credit or debit cards only.
