About

The Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine Center is a department on the campus of North Vista Hospital, a 217-bed community hospital in North Las Vegas that is a member of Prime Healthcare. After a first evaluation, physicians on the medical staff and nurses build an individual treatment plan for wounds that have not healed after weeks or months of care, such as diabetic foot ulcers, pressure ulcers, radiation burns, bone infections and failing grafts or flaps. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is offered alongside debridement, specialty dressings, offloading and skin grafts, and each HBOT session is monitored by a Certified Hyperbaric Technologist with a physician nearby.

Planning your visit

The first visit includes a comprehensive evaluation with a medical history, a physician exam, photographs of the wound, blood work and any non-invasive tests needed to plan treatment. Patients are asked to bring all current medications (including over-the-counter medicines and supplements), a list of allergies, insurance information and any available X-rays. The wound care team coordinates care with the patient's primary care physician. During hyperbaric oxygen therapy the patient breathes pure oxygen inside a pressurized chamber. A Certified Hyperbaric Technologist monitors every treatment, a physician is always nearby, and the technologist helps the patient equalize ear pressure as the pressure rises and falls. Most patients watch TV or sleep during treatment, and most need treatment over the course of several weeks to treat wounds.
