Planning your visit
A doctor's referral is required to begin the evaluation for hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
Treatment starts with a specialized medical consultation and clearance. Henry Ford describes a typical course as 20 to 30 treatments, or more when indicated, of about two hours each, usually given Monday through Friday over four to six weeks. Patients treated for wounds keep their regular wound clinic visits during the course. For each session, patients change into cotton scrubs and leave behind electronic and flammable items such as phones, lighters, tablets and computers. Patients are monitored throughout treatment, can communicate with a nurse or technician, and can speak with the chamber operator over an intercom.
