About

Seha Wound Care and Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment Center is an independent outpatient wound clinic in Wellesley whose medical director, Ikram Farooqi, MD, is board certified in internal medicine and geriatrics. Its clinical care coordinator is a certified medical assistant and a certified hyperbaric oxygen treatment technician. The clinic offers hyperbaric oxygen therapy alongside wound care for ulcers caused by pressure, diabetes, venous or arterial insufficiency and lymphedema, and for less common wounds such as pyoderma gangrenosum. It also sees patients for chronic leg or foot swelling, skin rashes, cellulitis, cysts and abscesses. It takes referrals from physicians, hospitals and skilled nursing facilities as well as self-referrals.

Planning your visit

The first visit covers a health history, a physical assessment, a history of the wound and past treatments, and laboratory or other tests when needed, followed by a discussion of the care plan among the doctor, nurse specialists, patient and family. Patients are asked to bring a list of current medications, an insurance card, photo ID and information about dressings or therapies already used, and to be ready for any office-visit copayment their insurance requires. The clinic is wheelchair accessible and receives patients arriving by ambulance stretcher; staff prefer a transfer to the treatment chair when possible. Individual care instructions can be printed for the patient or faxed to a home care agency, and the clinic says it is available by telephone 24/7 to answer home-care nurses' questions about the care plan. The clinic's door is next to the Dunkin' Donuts door, and the clinic says same-day appointments are available. The clinic says whether a primary-care referral is needed depends on the patient's insurance: none is needed when Medicare is the primary insurance, PPO and indemnity plans generally do not require one, and most HMO plans do.
