Planning your visit
Care begins with the center's nursing staff, who handle wound treatment, patient education and nutrition evaluation. A provider evaluates each patient and decides whether hyperbaric oxygen therapy is indicated in the treatment plan. HBOT takes place in one of the center's two monoplace chambers, where the patient breathes 100 percent oxygen at two to three times normal atmospheric pressure. The center works with each patient's primary and specialty doctors and arranges referrals or consultations as needed. After a wound heals, the center draws on physical therapy and prosthetists or orthotists for rehabilitation and to lower the risk of new wounds.
